  • Vehicle Rental Services Extend Helping-Hand to NY Metro Area reports Affordable Car Hire

(Transportation-News.com, November 23, 2012 ) Broxbourne, U.K -- New York Governor Cuomo announced that the state is working alongside car rental companies, in an attempt to meet consumer demand for cars following the devastation of Hurricane Sandy. The Governor directed the Department of State to facilitate the relocation of 12,000 cars to New York metropolitan area.

The state is assuring citizens that it will have an additional 5,000 on the way. They are hoping the move will accommodate many who need cars in order to help with the reconstruction of life after the hurricane destroyed much of the area.

“Hurricane Sandy left many New Yorkers without vehicles that they depend on for work and day-to-day functions,” said Governor Cuomo. “The car rental companies are stepping up to the plate to meet the high demand for cars and help consumers return to their everyday lives. I commend them for their swift response and I urge other rental companies in New York to join in the recovery efforts.”

Enterprise Holdings, which is the parent company of Enterprise Rent-A-Car, National Car Rental, and Alamo Rent A Car, announced the move of the 12,000 vehicles to the NY metro area. Another 5,000 will be on the way, according to EH, in order to aid those that need to move. The company has thus far been able to process 26,000 insurance-related rentals in order to service needs of the area’s consumers. Other insurance companies hope to follow suit soon.

American car Rental Association (ARCA) is doing its part to coordinate with the department of State’s Deputy Secretary to ensure tens of thousands of cars relocate to the Eastern seaboard as quickly as possible.

Meanwhile, the Division of Consumer Protection has received multiple reports of rental companies who seek to overcharge for rentals. The news is troubling but not uncommon, as there are those who prey on the needy, rather than come to their aid.
Those who find rental companies acting nefariously or suspiciously should contact the DoCP via their website or calling 1-800-697-1220.
