  • Chelsea Thumps Aston Villa 8-0 reports Football Ticket Net

(EMAILWIRE.COM, December 29, 2012 ) Madrid, Spain -- After a right thumping that London's blues put on an Aston Villa side, there is some perspective that needs to be taken.

Chelsea came into the match with a Champion's league team and one of the highest paid sides in the English Premiere League, while Aston Villa came into the match with a team whose average age was under 24 years old. Within this month Chelsea had lost to West Ham and to Corinthians in the FIFA Club World Cup final. However, if they are able to keep playing the way they did versus Villa, then they will be primed for a run in the Premier League title race.

For the team in blue, there was nothing but things to celebrate for the Christmas season. For Aston Villa, there was little be be merry about, as the young lions were taken to the slaughter. In his 500th Premiere League start, Frank Lampard took the club's lead scoring title, moving to 130 goals with his 25-yard drive before leaving the field behind a fierce ovation. Three minutes into the start, there was a sixth and seventh outing for Fernando Torres, as the £50 million strike slowly continued his turn from Tin Man into a golden-boot scorer.

Torres was the first of seven scorers in the match, which left Villa crushed underneath the weight of higher talent. Only Ramirez, who came in as a replacement for Lampard on the house, scored twice, while David Luiz, Oscar, Branislav Ivanovic, and Eden Hazard all beat goalie Brad Guzan.

The Torres transformation is startling and well-received by the long-waiting fans of Chelsea. He headed a goal from a cross by Cesar Azpilicueta that would have rivaled Didier Drogba's best.
For Chelsea, it was a day of fun and of truly allowing the talent accrued to thrive, while Aston Villa simply had no answer.

“The main thing is to win our games. You can do that if you can see the team improving,” Benítez said. “I’m sure it will be closer. We’ll try to be as close as possible, but you can see the mentality of the team: even after six goals they were still pushing forward for more.”
