(EMAILWIRE.COM, December 29, 2012 ) Madrid, Spain -- Within the Chelsea vs. Aston Villa thumping was inspired and unencumbered play of a redefined David Luiz.
Chelsea certainly enjoyed the wallop that they were able to put a highly over-matched Aston Villa side. On the face of it, the high-tempo attacking performance was inspiring and was just about everything a football fan would want to see out of their club.
There have been no shortage of questions about the ability of Rafa Benitez with his tenure as the Chelsea manager, but it is a testament to his leading style and capability that the midfielder played with such grace and capability in the 8-0 rout of Aston Villa.
Most notable in the on-pitch slaughter was the play of David Luiz, who employed some of the most vibrant play out of the midfield. The Brazilian was able to use all the knock-kneed capability and dazzling ball control, topped off by a brilliant goal that came from a direct free kick.
It was what could be called a 'complete' midfield display by Ruiz, and was both fully entertaining and supremely positive for the player whilst moving forward.
Ruiz seems to already be capable than much more than a simple feeder for Fernando Torres. But that does not mean that quality should go unnoticed, as Torres was able to score from a header. Luiz was what every midfielder should be, as he looked for passes to the center forward, and kept the ball moving well from his athletic and unhampered play.
Luiz has been touted for some time as a possible 'star in the making', and his chances since coming on to the Chelsea side have proven those words prophetic.
Luiz, even when bothered by Andreas Weimann, was able to compose himself and keep the ball coming well across the bitch. With 20 minutes gone, a perfectly placed pass put Mata in the goal, and possessed that kind of soft touch that is imperative for a high-quality midfielder to possess. Then, at 29 minutes in, Luiz provided his own quality touch with his free kick goal.
