  • Big Bikes Descend on Sacramento for Annual Easyrider Show reports Riders For Justice

(Transportation-News.com, January 21, 2013 ) San Francisco, CA -- Motorcycle enthusiasts from all over the nation rolled into Sacramento atop their bikes in order to attend the Easyriders bike show at the Convention Center.

The organizers expected anywhere up to 15,000 to to attend the event, which spanned two days. The show is all part of a nationwide tour that will end up with the Columbus, Ohio show next month.

"We have all sorts of vendors, from jewelry to helmets to parts," said event manager Kari Roben of Easyriders magazine. "Anything a rider would need."

There were hundreds of motorcycles, with most originating from outside the general region of the show, which lined up along the downtown area. The sheer mass of noise could be felt miles away from downtown as revved engines continued throughout the event.

Roben admitted that the target demographic was men, as the hobby was still a heavily male-dominated pass time. There were women who attended, but the number has stayed relatively small, according to Roben.

Raquel Alvarez is an exception to that norm, as the Pleasant Hill resident biked all the way from the Bay Area with her boyfriend to enjoy the convention.

"We're addicted to bikes," said Alvarez, 38, smiling. "It's always an adventure."

The 'main even' of the competition to decide which motorcycle would be the next to grace the cover of the Easyriders magazine. A balloting system was conducted to see which of the bikes would best represent Easyrider.

At the event, heavy motorcycles, which include Harleys) dominated the show floors and streets. But alternatives did their best to share the spotlight with long-time favorites.

Downtown's Scooter City did their best to promote their smaller bikes that catered to older crowds and the female demographic.

America is built on big stuff," he said. "People want their big bikes."

Mario Balderas was also attempting to woo enthusiasts with his alternative. Balderas' company is called Freedom Rides,, and it creates three-wheeled “trikes”

"You get a safer, comfortable, more relaxed ride," he said.
