  • Rail Way May Be The Answer To Traffic Problems reports Downtown Cars

(Transportation-News.com, February 02, 2013 ) Melbourne, Australia -- Air travel is steadily increasing these days and with more people flying there is much more road congestion when driving to and from the airport. With all the cars on the road there needs to be a better safer alternative to driving to the airport.

On place this is very apparent is Tullamarine in Australia where a major hub for air travel is located. They are projecting an increase in people flying to and from this terminal by 35 million people in the next 20 years. This is a major increase in travelers driving to and from the terminals. The major problems with this lie with the roads. There are too many cars and not enough room for all of them to safely make their way to the terminal.

A proposal of a railway system was submitted so that the roadways and the surrounding towns would not have to endure the nonstop commute. The idea seemed like a great idea, but the only problem was that this proposal was suggested in 1958. In 55 years there has not been any advancement on this idea. There have been many arguments and debates on the subject but nothing of late has come about.

One of the major arguments against the rail system was a study conducted by the Victorian Parliament, where it was stated that rail patronage had decreased, therefore, there would be no need for a rail system. Another issue for having the railway developed is a monetary issue. There are questions if the railway will be as profitable as it will be expensive.

One thing is certain, with the projected amount of travelers increasing by such a large amount, there needs to be a better way of transporting them to and from the terminals. In order to give the freeway and the towns surrounding the freeway a little reprieve, a better system needs to be put into place.
