  • 200 New Jobs for Toledo Chrysler Production Workers reports Jeep JK Build Up

(Transportation-News.com, March 23, 2013 ) San Francisco, CA -- Chrysler says it will hire 200 people at the Ohio Jeep plant that creates the Wrangler, according to a statement made by the company on Thursday.

The Wrangler is a Jeep model that is likely most known as its image as a United States Army vehicle in World War Two pictures, recreations, and so forth. The demand for Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited has been strong enough for Chrysler to increase production at the Toledo, Ohio plant, according to Chrysler spokesperson Jodi Tinson.

The new hires are said to be put into place at the start of April. Tinson stated that Chrysler will hire 130 workers that will offer “tax relief” for colleagues who need to take breaks from the assembly line.

There are two shifts for the assembly line at the Toledo plant, each with 10-hour stints. There are not currently plans to add a third shift as of yet, due to the paint shop of the plant at full capacity, even when adding a third eight-hour shift schedule.

Wrangler and the Wrangler Unlimited edition production from Toledo saw a rise of more than 200,000 in 2012. That marked a new record, and U.S. sales accounted for almost 142,000 of those orders. Chrysler now has two parts of what it calls the Toledo Jeep Complex. One of the parts makes the Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited editions, while the other is now shut to prepare for production of the Jeep Cherokee.

The Cherokee is a sporting utility vehicle, and is replacing the Jeep Liberty, which was discontinued in recent years. Production of the Cherokee will thus beign at the start of the summer, according to CEO Sergio Marchionne.
