(Transportation-News.com, April 01, 2013 ) Calgary, Canada -- There is a large challenge looming for Kyle Busch, Matt Kenseth, and the remainders of the Toyota gang over the weekend at the Auto Club Speedway: to give the Japanese manufacturer its first victory at one of the two tracks at the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series where Toyota has never won. The possibility is finally seeming rather strong, for the first time since they started attempting to claim the prize.
While there has been another manufacturer who has dominated the last few years, Toyota has a good reason to expect to have one of their cars to find Victory Lane for this weekend's Auto Club 400 in Fontana. While Chevrolet has found victory lane for the last half-decade, Toyota will stick to its guns and try to trust in its current team.
The Gen-6 cars have visited one intermediate track in the new season during the trip to Las Vegas Motor Speedway, where Kasey Kahne led the most laps in his Chevrolet/Hendrick Motorsports; however, Matt Kenseth of Toyota took the checkered flag for Joe Gibbs Racing.
The precedent was an important one, as the teams are still working toward knowing more and more about the new-generation cars. Kenseth experience success in Fontana in the past, with eight top-five finishes and three outright victories.
“Fontana has really changed a lot over the last three or four years. The grooves have moved around and everyone always talks about the seams in the pavement”, Kenseth said about the racetrack. “Those seams can get a little tricky since you can’t really run across them and have to pick a lane in between them. I think one of the biggest challenges at Fontana is to try different lines constantly in order to find the most grip throughout the race”.
