(Transportation-News.com, July 29, 2013 ) Chino, CA -- Sixth Street Development, LLC has opened up a second self-storage facility in the town of Kearney, Nebraska. Like many self-storage companies, it converted an existing structure into a storage facility rather than building a brand new one - but what’s really cool about the new structure converted, is that it’s an old drive-in movie theater.
Mark Benjamin, president and CEO of BD Construction, who helped Sixth Street Development convert the old theater into a storage facility said it was a great idea. “There’s always a demand for this kind of storage because people always need a place to stash things” and turning an old drive-in movie theater, that isn’t being used and probably wouldn’t be, is an ingenious idea.
The drive-in has been closed since the projection screen was destroyed by a tornado in 2008 and was never repaired. Now, Sixth Street Development will offer 380 storage units of varying sizes and will be convenient and affordable.
According to Benjamin, he’s helping develop the storage units for people who need a place to store but get quick access to motorcycles, bikes, and even campers and other outdoor equipment.
Another self-storage facility will also be moving in with movie industry, but in a different fashion. In California, Superior Self Storage will be hosting a family movie night which will project movies onto the backside of storage units to get the community together. The company plans to show a movie once a month. On August 17, they will be screening Toy Story 3.
