  • UHP Confirms Higher Traffic Fatality Rate in 2014

(Transportation-News.com, January 05, 2015 ) Salt Lake, UT -- Throughout 2014, Utah Highway Patrol troopers pleaded for drivers in the area to slow down and do their best to be safe. Despite their warnings, it was noted that traffic fatalities in 2014 were higher than what occurred in 2013.

In 2013, 220 deaths occurred from traffic accidents, whereas the most recent data for 2014 shows nearly 240 deaths.

Jeff Nigbur, a Utah Highway Patrol Sergeant, states, “Our goal is zero, and right now we're nowhere near it.” He also notes that about sixty percent of the fatalities that happened on the road this year involved people that were not wearing their seatbelt at the time of their crash. In addition to ignoring seat belts, he feels that speeding played a large part in the deaths. Nigbur expects that the death rate will drop if people can simply make better decisions while in a vehicle.

Along with the troopers, one 19-year old crash survivor also asks Utah residents to drive safer. Of his tragic accident, he says, “My friend … was killed instantly. [Another] actually ended up burning to death… you never fully recover…”

Surviving car accident victims in the area may need a Salt Lake City personal injury attorney. The law offices of Craig Swapp & Associates practice throughout the state and offer the services of a Salt Lake City personal injury lawyer at all hours. Now, injured victims may reach a live representative at any time, day or night. Dial 888-251-7671 or visit http://www.craigswapp.com/ to start chatting.
