  • Strange But True: Car Part Removed From Man 51 Years Late

(Transportation-News.com, January 28, 2015 ) Miami, FL -- A few weeks ago, 75-year old Arthur Lampitt was moving concrete blocks when he noticed pain in his left arm. "The arm started bulging," said his wife, Betty.

When it came time for surgery, what they found was nothing short of astonishing: a 7-inch turn signal bar from a bad car accident he was in … in the year 1963!

Until recently, the lever had not created any pain for Mr.Lampitt. In fact, he had no suspicion that anything foreign was in his arm until about ten years ago, when he set off a metal detector at a courthouse. He thought medical instrument may have been left behind during surgery from the wreck, but never thought much about it.

Lampitt’s hip was broken, which may have caused his arm to be overlooked. As it turns out, a protective pocket grew around the lever and it was able to heal, surprisingly without any infection or other complication. His surgeon, Dr. Timothy Lang stated, “Something this large often gets infected.”

As for a malpractice suit, the incident occurred far too long ago, and no serious complications arose from it. According to the website of Miami personal injury attorney Carlos Verdecia, most statutes for malpractice cases are up in two to four years after the incident happens and there must be an injury caused by it.
