  • Porteridge Locksmith Endorses Ford Road Improvement Plan to become a Boulevard

(Transportation-News.com, March 27, 2015 ) Canton, MI – Porteridge Locksmith, a locksmith in Canton, supports the forthcoming plan to convert Ford Road into a boulevard.

Darrell Clem of Hometown Life discloses the proposal which will solve the area's traffic congestion, http://www.hometownlife.com/story/news/local/canton/2015/03/06/canton-ford-road-sidebar/24490451/. The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) called it as "the best plan", but then disclosed that a small-scale improvement can provide commuters relief this year.

A spokesperson from Porteridge Locksmith commented, “Right now during rush hour, Ford Road is just a huge cluster. Canton is so nice, but it’s so stressful driving through that stretch. Once construction is done, putting a divider will be nice. It’s such a hassle for cars to make left turns right now.”

The plan was to transform Ford Road "from the I-275 interchange west to Sheldon", installing a median to separate opposing traffic lanes and eliminate left turns at intersections. This idea was perceived to have the best potential out of the several road improvement proposals.

Ford Road is among Canton’s most dangerous streets, accumulating hundreds of accidents per year. Based from the statistics by Buckfire & Buckfire (http://www.buckfirelaw.com/library/canton-car-accident-lawyers-auto-motorcycle-truck-bicycle.cfm), most of the motor accidents in Canton occurred in intersections of Ford Road in 2004-2008. The numbers reveal the following locations as the most fatal areas:

    1. 345 accidents occurred on Ford Rd. and at Haggerty Rd.
    2. 229 accidents occurred on Canton Center Rd. at Ford Rd.
    3. 207 accidents occurred on Ford Rd. at Lilley Rd.
    4. 182 accidents occurred on Ford Rd. at Sheldon Rd. South
    5. 133 accidents occurred on Ford Rd. at Ramp - S I 275/M 153

Repairing the road will help reduce the numbers on the statistics.

Porteridge Locksmith believes that repairing Ford Road will provide long-term safety for commuters, especially in the hazardous areas of the highway’s intersection. A company spokesperson said, “Of course, nobody really wants to spend money, but it doesn’t hurt as much when you know that spending that money will save tons of injuries and quite a few lives, too.”

However, accumulating funds for the Ford Road improvement project can a big challenge. Manager Gorette Yung of MDOT's Transportation Service Center in Taylor, reveals that there is no money to back up the proposal. However, the supporters of the proposal are not giving up.

Ford Road construction will cost $20 million. Canton Township Supervisor Phil LaJoy has mentioned the proposal during his State of the Township address in order to call for the community’s support for the road’s reconstruction.
