If wired into the existing vehicle horn system, the Screaming Banshee sits in reserve, and will only activated with a steady depression of the horn button of greater than 0.2 seconds. Taps of the horn activate only the standard motorcycle horn. For a situation where additional volume is needed the horn button is depressed and the Screaming Banshee activates. The unit is an electric air horn that emits a pulsing sound that has been rated in excess of 130 decibels. For comparison that level of volume is greater than a typical emergency siren.
"This little horn is loud," says Mr. Jepsen. "It's small, it tucks away just about out of sight, usually somewhere in the engine area, but when you activate it -- you can hear this thing blocks away. Even in a sealed car cabin, even with other distractions like AC, radio, phone ... you'll get their attention."
In addition to emitting a pulsing high-volume sound, activation of the Screaming Banshee flashes the motorcycle high beams for an added visual component.
