All the homeowner needs to do is to spray a little bit of lubricant on the springs, rollers, and tracks. They can then use liberal amounts of lubricant on the drums. They should then manually run up the door up and down a few times to lubricate the cables. The operator rail can also benefit from a little bit of lubricant, but the vehicle should be kept out of the garage for a time so that the lubricant doesn't drip on it.
"Homeowners can also check the balance of the doors, but they should never pull the manual release cord when the door is in the up position," warns Olusfon. "They can also look at the hinges of the garage door to check for loose screws."
