Practical Training Gets Students off to a Great Start

During operator's practical training, students will perform showing what they've learned on a rotating basis, with each student getting about 10 to 20 minutes to show what they've mastered. Areas covered during practical training include:

    - Load capacity and Stability - Students receive knowledge of the capacities of each piece of equipment they will be operating

    - Inspecting Vehicles - How to inspect vehicles before use to be sure they're operating correctly, with emphasis on safety

    - Controls and Attachments - How to use specific controls or attachments that may be needed during the vehicle's operation

    - Steering and Maneuvering - Nuances of moving the vehicle through tight spaces and in challenging conditions and proper steering methods

    - Refueling and Charging - Best safety practices during refueling and making sure equipment stays properly charged

    Certificates Awarded Upon Completion

Once students have successfully learned to operate a forklift, they'll receive documentation including a completion certificate of their Tigard forklift training, an operator card, a document of their evaluation and a signed copy of OSHA regulations. Employers can then decide which students should be trained further to become instructors.
