 (EMAILWIRE.COM, March 08, 2010 ) Miami, FL - Released By Pirates Yesterday Morning, The FV THAI UNION 3 - had been seized on Oct. 29, 2009. by Pirates with a crew of 23 Russians, two Filipinos and two nationals from Ghana about 200 nautical miles north of the Seychelles and 650 miles off the Somali coast (During the attack the Russian captain was shot in the left elbow).
The Thai Registered, fishing vessel and its crew were held around 1.5nm from where the FV ALAKRANA was held at the central Somali coast of the Indian Ocean in an area called Ga'an, north of Harardheere, south of Hobyo (central Somali coastal region of Galmudug State Simi-Autonomous Administration);
Mr.Fielding Stated that having been contacted by Russian Authorities in the past weeks due to our broad relationships with the many factions operating in Somalia such as the UN Backed Transitional Federal Government (TFG), Clan Leaders, Anti Shebaab - Group "Ahlu Sunna Wal Jama" (ASWJ), Galmudug State Administration Members and others, everyone working together were able to stimulate the communication needed to facilitate the Peaceful Release of the 23 Russian, 2 Filipinos and 2 Ghana nationals as well as the Thai Union 3 all in good condition.
Phoenix Intelligence Support is honored to have been a part of such a successful mission which included a parallel effort, by the Ship Owners, (who paid a substantial Ransom to the Pirates over the past days and contributed to the Peaceful Resolution of the Hostage Situation).
We Also thank Dr Mohamed Zayed our Special Regional Adviser who helped organize and maintain all of the meetings and communication with the Officials and to Senator Aref Rteimeh our Regional Office Chief in Amman Jordan, who traveled to many countries in Africa and the Middle East Meeting with many of them , who were active and effective in the unified approach during the past week(s) that ultimately resulted in the release of the Hostages yesterday afternoon.
Mr. Fielding Also stated that Phoenix conducted all of their assistance at the request at the request of the Russian Authorities and in support of our long standing commitment towards stability and security in Somalia without any remuneration to our firm in order to show our commitment to supporting a Peaceful Somalia and to demonstrate our effectiveness in the region.
Mr Fielding Stated that the results of our work together exemplifies the value of unified cooperation between Public Officials and The Professional Private Sector Security Industry.
This type of cooperation should be expanded across the various issues effecting Somalia and the Horn Of Africa, not only with respect to Anti Piracy Initiatives, Hostage Negotiation or Rescue, Counter Terrorism and Counter Insurgency Support but also with respect to Law Enforcement and Intelligence Support operations in general as Capacity Building Efforts are much more effective when they are approached with both Public and Private Sector Support.
We wish the Russian and other Sailors well in their future with their friends and families and look forward to future cooperation in similar efforts as there are still nearly 200 sailors still being held in Somalia by Pirates from Many countries across the world including 3 more Russian Citizens currently being held on the UK Registered St. James Chemical Tanker near the location of the Thai Union 3 before its release yesterday.
The St James Vessel has a crew of 26, among them Filipinos (3), Russians (3), Georgians (1), Romanians (2), Bulgarians (5), Ukrainians (2), Polish (1), Indians (6) and Turkish (3). There are no UK citizens on board though the British couple are being held in the Same area of Galmudug State Region and hopes are that the TFG call to have them released on Humanitarian grounds will prevail these next days.
