They are connected by pulleys, cables, bellcranks, and push-pull tubes to a control wheel or control stick. Ailerons are usually placed in pairs and move in opposite directions during operation. These are one of the primary control surfaces of aircraft, which turn or fine tune aircraft's altitude and provide rolling movement about the longitudinal axis.
