Inspired by the I Love Boulder campaign, Boulder-based Adventure With Friends is bringing couples together with some low-stress, fun mountain biking classes just for women. The classes are designed for women or men who want to experience outdoor activities without the need need to become world-class athletes.
According to Adventure With Friends founder Dean Barta, shared adventures can be the secret to lifelong relationships. Unfortunately, teaching a significant other to learn your sport may become the wedge that forces couples to go their separate ways – at least in adventure sports. The Boulder Taste of Adventure program is designed to put couples on common ground and jumpstart a common love for mountain biking together.
“There is an understanding among experienced recreation enthusiasts: Never teach your spouse or significant other to ski or mountain bike – it’s not worth the frustration or silent treatment that follows,” said Barta. “It’s worth every penny to pay someone else to teach them if you don’t want to end a great relationship on the mountain. We’re going to make that investment in your relationship a little easier by teaching your significant other to mountain bike for you at an affordable price ($40 per person for a two-hour lesson, group limited to four).”
Barta said he was inspired by the I Love Boulder campaign’s sense of community and was impressed by the number of local companies and organizations all working together to celebrate what makes Boulder a great city. “Boulder has so much to offer, and adventures in the Rocky Mountains are what draw many of us to the area. It’s something friends and families can do together on weekends that will make their love of Boulder last a lifetime.”
He said Adventure with Friends, a domestic and international adventure travel company, has a corporate philosophy that building relationships is equally as important as connecting with people’s sense of adventure. As a Boulder-based firm, it actively wants to share that philosophy with “would-be adventurers” who get left behind when one half of the couple wants to push the limits.
