  • Supreme Court Justice Causes Four Car Pile Up And Receives Traffic Ticket

(EMAILWIRE.COM, April 07, 2011 ) Washington, DC -- A four-car traffic accident on the southbound George Washington Parkway occurred Tuesday morning — with a Supreme Court justice found to be responsible for causing it.

Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia was well on his way to a hearing on the widely-known Wal-Mart gender discrimination case when he crashed into a vehicle that had lined up in traffic, causing that vehicle to smash into two other cars, and earning the justice a $70 ticket infraction for, as the police put it, following too closely.

Ex-NBC reporter Brooke Salkoff saw the whole incident. incident. "It slammed into the car in front of his, which pushed the other two forward," Salkoff said. The reported was surprised to see Scalia behind the wheel when she checked who the driver was.

In addition to Scalia's $70 ticket, he was also charged a $20 assessment. According to Park Police Sgt. David Schlosser, Scalia has the opportunity to appeal the ticket if he wishes to. "It was a busy traffic area. It just happens," the spokesman further commented.

The big question that has yet to be answered: will the Supreme Court justice hire an attorney, or will he represent himself?

The incident happened before 9 a.m. in rush hour traffic. It was reported that Scalia made it to work just in time for the 10 a.m. hearing.
