It’s a new way of finding one’s car once lost though it does look pretty much alike an older app that was previously available.
Lost you car? No problem. Pull out your iPhone 4S and you can easily look for it. No hassles and no issues whatsoever. Except of course, some people recognize this app as some sort of rehash of an older app from an older iOS version. Consumer opinion is in a split some hailing the new app while others voicing their critique.
The particular iPhone app in question is called Find My Car Smarter, which is designed to help users find their car in a crowded parking lot. This app is actually a manufacturer response to Bluetooth 4.0 Smart technology, which was not previously available. Besides all the Bluetooth software downloads, ItÂ’s one of the new apps on the App Store that actually make use of the newly introduced wireless technology.
Some customers were spot on when they recognized the location tracking capability of the new iPhone 4S. It should be noted that iOS is tremendously restrictive with regard to functions and operations to be allowed in the background. Only a handful of functions are allowed by iOS, which includes location tracking, audio streaming, and download completion. Bluetooth LE connections are a welcome addition to the few background scenarios that are allowed with the introduction of iOS5.
WhatÂ’s the Fuss?
Apparently not everyone is happy with the new Find My Car Smarter app. For one thing, the app is still in a kick start campaign. This means that consumers who want to try the app will be required to make a donation, which will cost users some $25. Those who are generous enough to donate the amount will get a 99 cent worth app plus a one of a kind USB Bluetooth tag that users will have to plug in their cars.
Now, for car owners who donÂ’t have a built in USB port in their cars, they can use a USB charger that basically plugs into the carÂ’s cigarette lighter. Setting things up for the iPhone 4S and the Bluetooth tag is pretty easy. Just plug the tag into the port to power it on, make sure that the car is on, and then launch the app from the iPhone.
The entire process is rather automatic and the app will just ask users whether they want to pair their phones with the detected smart tag on the car. ItÂ’s pretty easy to use and comparable to similar apps available in Android. Some consumers say that Android beat the iOS to the punch when deliver this type of app. However, they didnÂ’t have to deal with Bluetooth 4.0 either.
