(EMAILWIRE.COM, February 17, 2012 ) Austin, TX - BMW has recently made headlines by offering full-hybrid technology in its high performance luxury cars such as its most recent addition to its respected 5 series, the BMW ActiveHybrid 5. However, some are saying that despite its use of a hybrid engine, the ActiveHybrid 5 is not a genuinely green vehicle since it achieves 31 MPG at the most. These same observers of green vehicles say the time has come for all of us to accept the fact that a hybrid drive train does not automatically equal green.
Instead, a hybrid drive train in high-performance, luxury vehicles means that a driver can get top performance at better gas mileage than he or she would otherwise be able to achieve. And, the BMW ActiveHybrid 5 does indeed deliver when it comes to performance, going from zero to 60 in 5.7 seconds. Also, some industry observers believe that this car will serve as a stepping-stone model that bridges the gap between gas-powered cars and fully-electric models.
