On Sunday June 3, 2012, a Dana Air passenger plane from Abudga to Lagos crashed into apartment building and killed 153. There were no survivors in the Lagos crash. On Saturday, June 2, 2012, a Boeing 727 cargo plane owned by Allied Air attempted to land at Kotoka International Airport, crashed through the airport fence into a bus on the street and killed 10 passengers on impact. The flight crew survived the crash as they jumped out of the plane.
Investigations on both crashes are ongoing as Ghana and Nigeria morn for the sudden loss. The president of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan has declared a day of morning and the Vice President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama has ordered a thorough investigation of the crash without drawing quick conclusions.
The Nigerian aviation industry faces a blow because both planes are from Nigeria. DANA Air is based in IkeJa, Lagos State and Allied Air is based in Murtala Mohamed International Airport, Lagos.
