(Transportation-News.com, September 27, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA- Car insurance probably does not come cheap for Lindsay Lohan, who has had several high-profile auto-related incidents. One expert estimated it might run up to “hundreds of thousands of dollars” each year.
“Insurance companies can refuse to insure anyone if they have been suspected of insurance fraud or had too many accidents,” Roger Brideaux, a spokesman for AutoInsuranceQuery.com, told the Pop Tarts column of FOX411. “It could happen to Lindsay, but as long as she can afford a very expensive insurance policy or custom plan, she can get insured.”
The Mean Girls actress most recently was arrested after being accused of leaving the scene following a incident where the actress reportedly clipped a chef in an alley between hotels in New York. Lohan was on her way to the Dream Hotel, where she partied before her arrest. Authorities said she checked the 2010 Porsche Cayenne for damage.
A Lohan representative said the incident was blown out of proportion. “We are confident this matter will be cleared up in the coming weeks and the claims being made against Lindsay will be proven untrue,” Steve Honig said.
It is not the first auto-related incident for Lohan, 26.
“Lindsay’s auto insurance policy is likely to be in the hundreds of thousands of dollars per year, not to mention that some insurance providers in California may require a bond,” Brideaux added. He said Lohan probably would choose to carry a comprehensive policy, which would cover loss to an insured vehicle that was not caused by a crash.
“Then (she) should/will add other covers, such as medical coverage, uninsured and underinsured motorist…. Add to that she is a high-risk driver with numerous previous driving offenses,” Brideaux said. “To sum up, it will be fair to say that hundreds of thousands of dollars will combine her auto insurance costs, plus higher limits for payout she will require, plus medical and liability coverage costs.”
There is another possibility, however. One car industry observer said some automakers might loan vehicles to Lohan in return for favorable publicity.
