  • Yamaha India hires 200 women for scooter assembly line reports Assembly-Jobs.com

(Transportation-News.com, October 16, 2012 ) Yamaha India has started an all-women assembly line for scooters.

The company hired 200 women to work on the assembly line, located in Yamaha’s Surajpur plant in UP.

Through its initiative, Yamaha is offering classroom and on-the-job training for the women, who will undergo an apprenticeship program approved by state government. The three-year apprenticeship will offer industrial training, among other types of training.

Each of the 200 women will take an Industrial Training Institute examination at the end of each year.

Once they complete the program, the women will receive an ITI certification approved by the UP government.

Mr. Roy Kurian, National Business Head, India Yamaha Motor, said, “This is the first time in Yamaha’s history, not only in India but also worldwide, that the company has started an assembly line which is run exclusively by women. Being the pioneers in this movement, Yamaha certainly hopes to see this initiative being replicated across the industry.”

In related news, the company recently developed a riding training program for female customers throughout India. Known as the Yamaha Female Riding Training program, it targets young urban women, also the target of the company’s recently launched scooter Ray.

Yamaha has also focused on improving its customer care for female customers in part by hiring more women to work in customer service and introducing female customer care programs.

The much anticipated Yamaha Ray was first shown in Hyderabad in September. It is the first Yamaha scooter model for women in India.

The company opted to enter India’s scooter segment owing to large demand for the product from college students and young working women.
