(Transportation-News.com, October 26, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA- A recent study has found that the ratio between the index and ring finger on a man’s right hand is related to penis size.
Researchers say that exposure to male hormones in the womb might affect both the stretched length of the penis and the finger-length ratio. That might help doctors predict the tendency to prostate cancer and other hormone-related illnesses. The study was reported in the July 4 edition of the Asian Journal of Andrology.
Researchers studied 144 men ages 20 years or older who were set to have urological operations. Their finger lengths and both flaccid and stretched penis lengths were measured while they were under anesthesia. The study was conducted at South Korea’s Gachon University Gil Hospital.
According to the study, the stretched length of the penis was an average of 4.6 inches, with a range of three to 6.7 inches. The size of an erect penis correlates statistically to stretched penile length.
The study found the length of a flaccid penis was 1.6 to 4.7 inches, with an average of three inches.
The South Korean researchers found the lower the ratio between index and ring finger, the longer the penis would tend to be. Testosterone in the womb appears to affect both the finger ratios and the penis size, but the details remain unclear.
One biologist said the findings could help doctors estimate testosterone exposure in the womb. “The value of digit ratio research for the biomedical scientist or clinician may come from the predictive abilities and risk-assessment qualities of the measurement for clinical conditions,” wrote Denise Brooks McQuade in an editorial that accompanied the study. McQuade was not involved in the research.
