  • Truck Driver Lucky to Escape Injury After Tub Smashes Through Windshield reports Superior WindScreens

(Transportation-News.com, November 09, 2012 ) Victoria, Australia- A bus driver was nearly killed when a 10kg sub of adhesive was thrown from a bridge on one of Scotland’s busiest roads.

The pot smashed through the windshield at actually struck the 60-year-old driver of the single-decker.

The bus smashed into a steering column, but the driver was able to slow down and bring the vehicle to a stop on the side of the road. He was lucky to escape with minor injuries. The tub is said to have been stolen from a nearby building.

Glen Bland, chief inspector, stated: “It is no understatement to say that it is only sheer luck which stopped this incident being much worse and the driver counts himself lucky that he was not severely injured or killed as a result of this completely senseless act on one of Scotland’s busiest roads. It’s to the driver’s credit that he managed to avoid other vehicles and stopped the bus at the edge of motorway.”

Officers are to view the CCTV footage as they search for the culprit(s). The police have stated that it is possible the tub was stolen from a nearby building.

“It is vital we trace those responsible for carrying out such a dangerous act and I am appealing to drivers who were on the M80 last night and saw anyone on the overhead bridge near to junction six to contact me,” said Mr. Bland. “Also, anybody who saw anyone hanging around the Dowanfield Road area of Cumbernauld or someone carrying a large white plastic tub last night should get in touch.”

Last year several incidents involved items being thrown from bridges and overpasses. Another van has its windshield smashed on December 2011 in a similar incident.

The culprits are suspected to be youths, as there is appears to be no motive other than general destruction and damage to motorists’ vehicles.

Two nine-year-old girls are considered among the culprits of these crimes. They had previously been captured on CCTV throwing bricks from footbridges over the M25. The pair is too young to prosecute, however with mounting evidence to habitual dangerous behavior; it is likely some form of punishment will be levied on either the two children or their parents.
