(Transportation-News.com, November 23, 2012 ) Broxbourne, U.K -- Car rental agencies are generally getting favorable reviews from customers while airlines are receiving series rebuke from their passengers, according to recent data. In a study released by J.D. Power & Associates last week, customer satisfaction with rental car companies increased for the third consecutive year. In fact, the overall satisfaction rating of 769 on a 1,000-point scale is at its highest level in seven years. Meanwhile, issues with flight delays, flight cancellations, missing or delayed baggage, and customer service has the airlines receiving one-third more complaints for the first nine months of 2012 compared to the same period last year. In data posted by the U.S. Bureau of Transportation Statistics, the bureau received a total of 12,145 complaints during the period, a 33.5% increase. Based on September 2012’s statistics alone, United Airlines had the most complaints at 211, followed by 162 by American Airlines. Car rental satisfaction, according to the study could be directly attributable to the bus service or shuttle vans that the car rental companies employ to transport customer between the airport and their cars or the service desk. Daily rates and fees also received higher marks for satisfaction. Greeting customer with a smile also was attributable to the high rating. The study showed that car rental customers who were greeted with a smile by the customer service agent gave an average rating of 795 while a rating of 647 was given by those customers who did not get a smile.
