  • Many Consumers Would Trust Driverless Cars

(Transportation-News.com, May 26, 2013 ) England, UK -- In a Cisco study released May 14th about consumer’s thoughts on driverless cars worldwide, 57% of all respondents said they would trust a car without a human driver.

95% of participants in Brazil said they would trust driverless car. However, in the United States, only 60% would trust these cars, and only 57% of Russians said they would. Brazil is a fairly new vehicle market, and so is India, where 86% of the respondents said they would also trust a driverless car. In China, another 70% of respondents would also trust a car without a human controlling the steering wheel and pedals.

Germans are still very skeptical of driverless cars, partly because most German-made and driven vehicles are still manual transmission. Only 37% of Germans would trust the driverless cars. Japan, which has been a leader in technology and robot creation, only had 28% of respondents say they would trust unmanned cars.

In another aspect of the study, Cisco found that 74% of all drivers would be okay with a car tracking their driving record if it meant that they could save on car insurance and routine maintenance costs. In addition, people are more willing to give out personal and private information in exchange for not having to speak directly with a salesperson. As technology seems to be increasing, so does its support from consumers.
