(Transportation-News.com, June 15, 2013 ) Orlando, FL -- The Azera is basically a much fancier Sonata. It's often compared with Toyota Avalon and Buick LaCrosse, which are about the same size.
Azera shines in the space race in front-seat legroom. It's about 45 inches, which is 5 inches more than for most cars. The tradeoff is modest rear legroom, a few inches less than in rivals.
However, according to critics there isn't a lot of leg space in regards to width when sitting up front in the Azera. The center control panel that runs from the bottom of the dashboard to the floor console is very wide, making it uncomfortable for the legs. On the other side, the annoying handle/power-window-switch pod stands in the way of comfortably resting the right leg.
Azera's only engine is a 3.3-liter V-6 rated 293 horsepower and 255 pounds-feet of torque. Those are competitive within the class, and the fuel economy is fantastic at almost 20 miles per gallon in a dense city afternoon traffic.
Test drivers for the Azera report that turning the car is rather heavy in corners, likening it to the old days of driving cars that didn't have a very good turn radius.
There is a $4,000 technology package that a lot of Azeras will come with. However, test drivers say it's not actually a "tech" package, it's a comfort/convenience package, because the car has so much tech stuff standard already, it may only be worth headlining for consumers who need
the technology.
Over all, elite test drivers reported that the Hyundai was spiffy looking, lavish standard features, but unexciting to drive.
