(Transportation-News.com, July 12, 2013 ) Orlando, FL -- The Hyundai Motor's Genesis has been awarded the “Concept Car of the Year” awarded as well as the "Most Significant Concept Vehicle of the Year" title in North America, according to the carmarker's US Sales Arm.
The Honda EV-STER and Toyota Corolla Furia were on the short list of top concepts, but were ultimately beat out by the HCD-14 Genesis. The votes were levied by volunteer jurors comprised of journalists.
The concept piece bested its competitors at Honda and Toyota, amongst others, in the North American Concept Vehicle of the Year Awards, which recognize the vehicles that are likely to alter the future of the industry. "Hyundai's HCD-14 introduces future premium vehicle design,
advanced 3-D gesture-based technology controls and spirited driving dynamics. Its rear hinged back doors and fastback coupe design add to the WOW factor," Bob Kroupa, one of the Principals of the Automotive Writers Group
There are over two dozen professional automotive journalists, of which Kroupa is a part of, who serve as the jurors who select the categorical winners.
Hyundai noted that the concept recognized the new state-of-the-art features of the company that are to enhance the driver's experience.
"HCD-14 Genesis provides a glimpse of Hyundai's future and showcases the emphasis we are placing on driving dynamics and technology. Winning the 'Concept Car of the Year' validates our design intuition as we take our premium line-up to the next level of sophistication in styling and technological prowess," said Chris Chapman, chief designer at Hyundai's North American Design Center.
