  • Amazon Declares Generation Eight Goes Live

    (Transportation-News.com, December 08, 2014 ) Auckland, New Zealand -- Amazon.com is currently operating 10 fulfilment centers with the latest generation fulfilment center technology across the U.S. But ready for the big Cyber Monday Amazon announced that they opened the doors for the generation eight fulfilment centre which uses robotics, Kiva technology, vision systems and high-end technology to quicken the product shipping to their customers. The new eighth generation fulfilment center is able to complete the whole shipping process up to three times faster than the regular fulfilment center.

    The new center systems include:

    • Kiva robot that navigates around the warehouse by following a series of computerized barcode stickers on the floor

    • Robo-Stow can transferring big numbers customer orders with a large robotic arms

    • The advanced vision systems allows unloading and receipting of a whole racking system of inventory in 30 minutes

    • Employees to use high-end graphically oriented computer systems for while fulfilling orders for customers.

    Amazon also released new figures of additional seasonal employees of 80,000 that will support to fulfil customer product demand during the upcoming holiday season. Amazon is planning to give thousands of the new employees the option to stay on in regular or full-time roles after the holiday season.


    At the same time a new automotive product has been released on Amazon, about to jump on the bandwagon to benefit from the new fulfilment center technology. The new product is a Drink and Drive Kit. A bottle holder with a car organiser that may be mounted to vehicles, by stretching a flexible neoprene pouch over the headrest.

    A product like the Driver Hydration System delivers high value for its purpose of saving the driver taking its hands of the steering wheel and eyes off the road while drinking and driving. The pack is made of waterproof 400D nylon. The top pocket has a flap and slit that can hold tissues with easy access, while the bottom pocket is zippered and can hold lunch box or other items. The drinking bottle is attached to a flexible sip tube and a hi-flow leak-proof bite mouthpiece. The Kit can take standard 1l or 1.5l water bottles or other drinking bottles and is also fitted with three different bottle caps that suit almost all European and American standard bottles. The Drink and Drive Kit has drawstring and straps, to fasten the system to the seat that prevents it from bouncing. The Retail price is $32.95.
