(EMAILWIRE.COM, January 11, 2012 ) Detroit, MI - If there is one thing Volvo Car Corporation is known for, it is that its cars are some of the safest on the roads. This year, it seems, will be no different with the automaker winning the Insurance Institute for Highway SafetyÂ’s (IIHS) 2012 Top Safety Pick award, confirming VolvoÂ’s leadership in car safety.
Five Volvo models, the C30, S60, S80 XC60 and XC90, earned the IIHSÂ’s top safety pick honors. The award is given to models that best protect drivers and passengers in the event of rollover, side, rear and front accidents. No other European luxury brand has been awarded this award.
Thomas Broberg, senior safety adviser at Volvo Car Corp, said, “The risk of being involved in an accident or being injured in one of our latest car models has been reduced by more than two-thirds compared with a Volvo from the 1970s. Now, we keep on moving towards our safety vision that nobody should die or suffer serious injuries in a new Volvo car by the year 2020.”
