(EMAILWIRE.COM, February 13, 2012 ) Cambridge, MA -- Dr. Vinton G. Cerf, co-designer of the TCP/IP protocols and the architecture of the internet, will deliver the keynote address at the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA) Gold Circle Breakfast in Newton, Ma on February 29th. A 2005 recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, Dr. Cerf currently serves as Vice President and Chief Internet Evangelist for Google. All proceeds from the event will help fund AFCEAÂ’s Education Foundation for scholarships and grants.
“We are thrilled to have Dr. Cerf join us this year at our signature fundraising event for scholarships,” said Dr. Jim Cunningham, President of AFCEA Boston. “Dr. Cerf’s background and continued leadership in the communications and electronics field make him an excellent fit with AFCEA’s mission, and he is a great example to the scholarship recipients who will benefit from the funds raised at the event.”
Claire Goulet, AFCEA Boston Vice President of Operations, noted that one hundred percent of the proceeds will go to AFCEA’s scholarship foundation, which last year donated $75,000 in scholarships and grants to high school seniors, ROTC cadets, and area schoolteachers. “This event is in just its second year, and we are already seeing it become the cornerstone of our scholarship fundraising activities,” she said. “We are very excited to share this opportunity now with a much wider audience.”
Dr. Cerf, recipient of the 2004 Turing Award, will explore functional and statistical views of the Internet, and he will address some of the new challenges it poses. He will field questions from the audience after his address.
The event will be held in the Newton Marriott Commonwealth Ballroom in Newton, Ma from 7 - 9am. Tickets are available now for $100 for the general public and $50 for government personnel. Seating is limited to 300.
