  • CarLoanwithNoCredit.com Lists The Top Five Fuel-Economy Myths

(Transportation-News.com, August 04, 2012 ) Wilmington, NC -- Yes, most consumers want to be fuel efficient. They want to save money, and they want to protect the planet. Unfortunately many of the gas-saving tips floating around the internet and bouncing between their ears are false. These are the five top myths about saving gas.

At one time, dirty air filters did in fact lower gas mileage. This is no longer true, because these days the air/fuel ratio is controlled by computers. This means that if less air is making it through the filter, less gas will be used as well.

This next myth is another one that used to be true. Warming up one's car before driving will not improve its gas mileage. Sure, back when cars had chokes and carburetors, this was the case. However, now most of today's cars are fuel-injected and feature electronically controlled drivetrains.

Some folks believe that getting gas in the morning will get them more gas since the gas is cooler and therefore more dense, which translates, the theory goes, into more gas being pumped per fluid gallon. However, what these people forget is that gas is stored underground where temperatures are stable.

Another myth is that the big chains have higher-quality fuel. The fact is that the big boys buy their fuel from the same places that the independent stations do: the large, big-name oil companies. Some also feel that premium gas is always more fuel efficient. It is not true since most cars are designed to run very well on standard gas. If there is a fuel-efficiency difference, it is not worth the cost difference between the premium and the standard gas prices.
