  • 1994 Honda Accord declared to be most stolen car in the U.S. reports YarraHonda.com.au

(Transportation-News.com, August 31, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA -- A recent study finds that the most frequently stolen car in the U.S. is the 1994 Honda Accord, isn’t great news for all the owners out there. According to reports by the National Insurance Crime Bureau(NICB), this car has topped the most stolen list for four years in a row.

The reason for this trend is the car’s lack of extended security features and its popularity in the market. After the release of the car, Honda decided to incorporate systems where the car couldn’t be stolen if the driver didn’t have the key to it.

A close second on this list was another Honda model from 1998, launched a year before the security systems were fitted in the cars. The most shocking car which was located in the top three was the Ford F-150, which is a pickup, and this is the first time that a truck has been placed that high on the list released in previous years as well.

The Chevrolet pickup model of 1999 and the 2004 Dodge pickup also came in on the list taking the seventh and eighth spot respectively. Ford came in again at the ninth spot as well.

The 1991 Toyota Camry has remained a top favorite with many families in the U.S. and this car was number four on the list of most frequently stolen vehicles. Similarly, two other Sedans, namely the Acura Integra and Nissan were also in the top ten taking the sixth and tenth place respectively. The Dodge Caravan was the only mini-van seen in the list and it grabbed an astounding fifth spot.

The FBI has declared that car thieves are now able to find alternate key codes for vehicles, breaking their security systems, and can now easily steal the latest models as well.

However, on a good note, the overall rate of cars being stolen is steadily falling and has been the lowest since 1967.
