  • AutoFinancingForBadCredit.org Recommends Six Sedans That Return 40 MPG

(Transportation-News.com, June 20, 2012 ) Wilmington, NC -- One of the easiest ways to save money each week is to buy a car that uses less gas. Sounds like it is pretty easy, but it may not be. Dozens of cars claim an EPA estimate that is in excess of 40 mpg. But consumers have to keep in mind that those are estimates based on somewhat limited testing by the EPA. MotorTrend did a bit more extensive series of tests and invited several of the top contenders to play. The magazine's testers invited the Chevrolet Cruze Eco, Ford Focus SFE, Honda Civic HF, Hyundai Elantra, Mazda3, and Volkswagen Jetta TDI to the sandbox and here is how things shook out.

The Hyundai Elantra has an EPA estimated mpg of 47.4, but only produced 36.2 mpg in testing. The Ford Focus has an estimated 47.9 mpg, but only produced 38.0 in testing. The Honda Civic came into town offering 53.0 mpg in theory, but only produced 39.7. The Jetta was the only diesel engine in the group. After offering a theoretical 52.4 mpg it produced an actual 41.6 mpg. Next is the Chevy Cruze. Theoretically, it should offer 58.1 mpg. An awesome number, but it actually produced 40.4 mpg. Nothing to sneeze at, but lower than expected. The Mazda3 offered a theoretical mpg of 50.9 and produced 38.4.

Each of these vehicles offers great mpg even after MotorTrend's more extensive testing. Unfortunately, consumers will have to drive each model to decide which is the best for them. That may not be as unfortunate as it sounds.
